  5. Here’s why I’m going to send my kid to Bayside Dance

I know when you read that you’ll be thinking “uh, of course you would, because you own the school.” Yeah, that’s true. But if I didn’t, I’d still send my daughter here, and here’s why.

We take our preschool program seriously so that you don’t have to.

“But preschool classes are all about having fun!” Yeah, they are – for the kids! But a preschool dance teacher is generally the first person teaching a child about their body – how it moves, how to be strong, how to make shapes big and small. Safe Dance Practice is imperative at every age, and I’m confident that our Bayside Dance teachers are up to date on all the latest research in dance, knowing what exercises are appropriate for what age and how to periodically introduce new skills. So I know that they’re taking care of my child’s body so that she is setting herself up for a life-long love of dance SAFELY. And I KNOW they make class fun.

Our teachers do this for a living.

Some dance schools will put their least experienced teachers in their preschool classes. I think there’s a perception that teaching preschool classes is “easy” and can be done by just about anyone, but I firmly believe that’s not the case. As the Director of a Bayside Dance, I put our MOST experienced teachers in charge of delivering our preschool program. They are career teachers – they’re in this for the long haul, not between dancing gigs. They genuinely care about each child and their progress and are skilled in creating a safe and nurturing classroom.

We’re part of a family.

When I first had my daughter, coming to the studio was like having a ready-made mother’s group. I knew I could count on the other mums for advice, a laugh and shared interests. I can’t wait to be one of our studio mums and share in the joy of seeing my little girl’s smiling face after class and see her proudly showing off her sticker. I know that walking into the waiting room I’ll be greeted by our friendly receptionists, that the teachers will hold her hand on her way into the studio and will help her find a magic spot to sit on. If she’s having a bad day, there will be plenty of cuddles to go round till she’s feeling confident. (Plus, I’m going to love having 30 minutes to have two hands to myself while my daughter has a ball dancing in the studio. The air con probably won’t go astray either in the summer months!)

So that’s why I’ll be choosing Bayside Dance for my daughter. And if you’re anything like me, and want a life-long love of dance for your child, hopefully you’ll choose us too.
