Welcome to your monthly Bayside Dance newslettter! Read on to find out all about what’s been happening at dance and what’s coming up next. Our monthly newsletters are a great way to share information so we encourage you to take a few minutes to read it through.

Uniforms
Once your dancer is settled in their new classes, make sure to check our Uniform guide to make sure they’re well equipped. All uniform items, including shoes, can be purchased from reception.Uniform Guide

Exams
More information about exams will come out in March, but a reminder that ballet dancers in Level 3 and above must be doing two ballet classes a week to be eligible. Ballet dancers in Pre-Elementary and above must also be doing a Pointe/Pre-Pointe & Conditioning class.

From Miss Kaitlin

Hello everyone and what a happy start to our dancing year we have had! We have so many new dancers and families joining us that I thought I would introduce myself!

My name is Kaitlin and I’m lucky enough to be the Director and Founder of Bayside Dance. I started the studio nearly 9 years ago in a hall in Manly with 7 students on our first day. Since then we have grown to our own space (which we have outgrown, renovated and just about outgrown again!) and have over 500 students and over 160 classes a week, ranging from our preschool program, kids and teens classes, vocational certificates and our adult classes. At the end of this year it will be our 10th concerts!

Wynnum is home turf for me and I love my four minute commute to work! Although I am known to stop for a coffee along the way. We are a family of four (or ten if you count the dogs and chickens), my husband Ivan is a carpenter extraordinaire, Cliffy is almost one and Milly is my own little dancer who just started Prep!

Outside the studio I’m an examiner for Southern Federation of Dance (which is the ballet, jazz and tap syllabus we teach) and I’m also completing a PhD investigating early specialisation in ballet. While my teaching load at the studio is a little less this year, you’ll see me at the studio often, alongside our team of 16 teachers and administrative staff who are their very best selves when they’re at work!

Our studio values of positivity, community, respect and safety, service and quality are values that reflect my own. I believe that dance is the vehicle by which we are teaching our students to be not just great dancers, but awesome human beings. I’m incredibly passionate about creating a “third space”, where dancers create another home for themselves and build connections beyond school and year groups. It’s a special place we’ve built together, that’s for sure!

What’s Been Happening?

Bayside Carols

Well done to our 2022 Performance Team dancers who performed in last year’s Bayside Carols! These mighty dancers performed in front of a few thousand people and had an absolute blast doing it! We love being part of the Bayside community and this was such a fun event.

Elf the Musical, JR.
We put on a show! In December, 32 performers “moved in” to the studio for a two-week musical theatre workshop in which they learnt an entire show in just 10 days! They brought energy, enthusiasm and so much creativity to every day of rehearsals and had a wonderful performance on Christmas Eve Eve.

TDP Bootcamp
The first dancers back in the studio in 2023 were our new Talent Development Program teams who took part in a three-day bootcamp! These highly committed dancers learnt almost all of their competition routines for this year and it was incredible to see how much they progressed in such a short amount of time!
